On the territory of the Donetsk region there are 51 thousand children whose parents do not want leave the region.

This was announced by the adviser to the Deputy leader Office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky Olena Symonenko on the air of the informational telethon.

“As of today, according to the head of the Donetsk OVA, there are about 350-370 thousand people in the Donetsk region, among them 51 thousand children. There are no children with disabilities among them, because they were taken out a long time ago. Among the children who now they are in the Donetsk region, everyone has parents, but they still refuse to travel around the region,” Symonenko said.

She noted that thanks to the evacuation organized by the authorities, more than 1 million 300 thousand people were taken out of the Donetsk region. Before the start of the Russian military aggression in Ukraine, more than 1 million 600 thousand people lived in the territory of Donbass.

“In fact, today there are people who do not want to leave these territories yet,” Symonenko stressed.

According to her, among those who do not yet want to evacuate, there are people, including the elderly, who have certain personal circumstances. At the same time, there are people who create resistance for the opportunity to leave not only for themselves, but also for their children.

“Therefore, today it was decided to develop a legal act, to see how it is standardized at the level of legislation in Ukraine, in order to decide on parents who do not want to leave the territory of the Donetsk region for anything and are in an extremely dangerous zone, that is, where there are hostilities in order to work out a mechanism for how it would be possible to take children out of these territories when the parents do not agree, “Symonenko explained.

She noted that finding the correct solution to this situation is a difficult process.

“Until Tuesday, the Donetsk OVA, together with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Social Policy, must work out this legal act, which will allow us to save the lives of children who are today in the territory where there are real hostilities, but their parents do not want to leave,” Symonenko stressed.

The adviser noted that the issue of children living in foster families, where parents also do not want to evacuate, is also being resolved.

“We have 91 children there who live in foster families. There is a situation where in two such families the parents refuse to leave, but say “take the children.” Negotiations are being held with these parents regarding the children so that they can be protected and taken out,” Simonenko said.

She said that work is currently underway to provide comfortable accommodation for children displaced from the Donetsk region and help parents with employment.

“Today we are talking with the heads of the military administrations of these regions – these are the Kirovograd, Poltava, Vinnitsa regions, in order to employ these parents if they wish. We are talking about the fact that people will be able not only to move to safe regions and receive appropriate payments for IDPs, but and assistance with employment,” Symonenko summed up.
