Zelensky told Macron about the situation at the front and discussed with him the supply of weapons.
“The parties agreed to coordinate further actions to provide security assistance to Ukraine both by France and other international partners, in particular, to meet the priority needs of Ukrainian defenders in modern weapons,” the message says.
Zelensky and Macron also touched upon the issue of war crimes that Russia continues to commit in Ukraine. “We are waging war against a real terrorist state. Russia’s planned cynical destruction of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Yelenovka is evidence of this,” Zelensky said.
Separately, the presidents discussed:
→ issues of macro-financial support for Ukraine;
→ post-war restoration of Ukraine and participation of France in it;
→ resumption of maritime grain exports from Ukraine;
→ the results of Macron’s African tour;
→ possible participation of Macron in the online summit of the Crimean platform on August 23.
- On June 15, Macron announced that wishes Ukraine victory in the warbut, in his opinion, Zelensky will still have to negotiate with Russia.
- In early June, the French president said that spent “a hundred hours” on negotiations with Vladimir Putin and stated that contacts should be maintained with Russia: “We must not humiliate Russia so that on the day of the cessation of hostilities we can find a way out through diplomatic channels.”
- His words caused a sharp reaction in the office of the President of Ukraine. Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, stated that “until someone asks not to humiliate Russia”, she vilely shells the capital of Ukraine with rockets. Zelensky said that does not understand what is meant by “humiliation of Russia”.
