Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two enemy agents, carrying out reconnaissance of the border area in the Sumy region – the press service of the department reports.

“The attackers collected information about the locations, the number of military personnel and weapons, as well as the existing fortifications of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. According to operational information, the enemy planned to use this data for the possible transfer of sabotage and reconnaissance groups to the territory of the region,” report in the secret service.

According to the investigation, two men were recruited by Russian special services during a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They informed their curators about the situation in the border areas.

“The attackers carried out photo and video recording of military facilities and transferred files with reference to the location to FSB employees,” the SBU added.

To communicate with each other and transfer data to the enemy, Russian spies used secrecy measures and used closed electronic communication channels.

Spies are suspected of treason. They face up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
