Briton Anthony Joshua was the first to look away in a duel with Usyk.
On Tuesday, June 21, the first press conference was held in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia as part of the promotion of the rematch between the holder of the WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight belts Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Anthony Joshua.
Oleksandr Usyk talked about preparing for a rematch with Joshua.
“I am happy that the next fight will be in Saudi Arabia against Anthony Joshua. As you know, the situation in Ukraine is very difficult, but we are doing our job. We are working with my team.
I never really made big statements. I will work in a training camp, and then I will go into the ring and please you with my boxing,” Usyk said.
Anthony Joshua in turn, he admitted that in the first battle he rightly lost to the Ukrainian.
“Usyk kicked my ass in some rounds, but I managed to accept this defeat with dignity. And I am ready to admit my mistakes. And in September he was better, and I was worse. Now I need to turn this situation around. I think you need to be simpler sometimes in the ring. Now I am actively working in the training camp.
You have to give your opponent credit. I am ready to admit when I see that someone is better than me. It motivates me if I see that Usyk was stronger than me that day. Or he is stronger than me in some components. It motivates me to get better.
And on August 20, I’m sure we’ll give the fans a show,” Joshua said.
After the press conference, Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua had their first duel of views.
The boxers looked into each other’s eyes for a long time and did not respond to calls to end the duel. After the persistent request of the moderator, the Ukrainian half-turned back to the audience, without looking away. Joshua did the same, and after a few seconds, he was the first to look away.
