As UNIAN reported earlier, on February 28, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an application for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
Today, 23 June, the European Council decided to granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union.
On June 17, Yermak announced that the European Commission would provide an action plan that needs to be completed in order to start Ukraine’s negotiations on joining the European Union.
Among the necessary steps on the path to EU accession, in particular, is the adoption and implementation of legislation on the selection procedure for judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, including a pre-selection process based on an assessment of their integrity and professional skills, in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
It is also necessary to complete the verification of the integrity of candidates for members of the High Council of Justice and the selection of candidates for the High Qualifications Commission of Judges of Ukraine.
In addition, Ukraine should strengthen the fight against corruption, in particular at a high level, complete the selection and appoint a new director of NABU and a prosecutor of the SAPO.
The plan also includes a number of other activities.
