Ukraine is preparing to fulfill the conditions after granting the status of a candidate for EU accession – Stefanyshyn

According to her, all EU countries supported granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership, there is a complete consensus of 27 leaders.

Ukraine is already preparing for the next steps after granting candidate status for accession to the European Union and the implementation of the necessary recommendations.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, this was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna during a briefing.

According to her, all EU countries supported granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership, there is a complete consensus of 27 leaders.

“We expect that the decision will be made from the very morning of June 24. Given the high level of consensus that exists at the moment, perhaps even such a decision will be made tomorrow evening. We are already preparing to fulfill the conditions that have been made public and recorded in the conclusion of the European Commission, which also recommended granting candidate status to Ukraine and provided that there are several recommendations that need to be implemented in order to proceed to the next stages of negotiations. We are already preparing a roadmap for the implementation of these recommendations, which will soon be presented and approved by the President of Ukraine,” she said .

She also explained that the status of a candidate, in addition to an important political signal, provides Ukraine with a completely different status in relations with the EU.

“In particular, we, as a candidate country, get access to EU structural funds,” the Vice Prime Minister added.

As UNIAN reported, on June 17, 2022, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Commission recommended that the European Council grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.

The decision of the European Council on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership is expected on June 23-24.
