Ukraine in the EU – Zelensky responded to the granting of candidate status – UNIAN

President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the decision of the leaders of the European Union grant Ukraine candidate status.

“I sincerely welcome the decision of the EU leaders to grant Ukraine candidate status. This is a unique and historic moment in relations between Ukraine and the EU,” the head of state said.

As UNIAN previously reported, on February 28, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an application for Ukraine’s membership in the EU. Moldova and Georgia also wanted to get the status of candidates for joining the association of states.

On June 17, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EC had recommended that the European Council provide Ukrainian state the status of a candidate for the European Union.

On June 23, the European Parliament adopted a resolution granting Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates for EU membership.

June 23 Brussels made a historic decision on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union. Until that day, the Ukrainians had been marching for 18 years.
