The Ukrainian Judo Federation condemned the decision of the IJF to allow Russians and Belarusians to the tournament in Mongolia.
Judo Federation of Ukraine (FDU) responded to the decision of the International Judo Federation (IJF) allow athletes from aggressor countries to a tournament in Mongolia under a neutral flag.
The FDU sent an open letter to more than 100 national judo federations with a request to support the complete exclusion of athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus from participation in international competitions.
The relevant statement was published on the official website of the Judo Federation of Ukraine.
“Before the start of the war, the Judo Federation of Ukraine had more than 30,000 members. Unfortunately, at the moment, more than 80% of them cannot continue their sports and coaching activities.
Many judoists stopped training and are forced to defend the territorial integrity of our country with weapons in their hands.
Proclaiming the slogans of friendship, solidarity, peace, sports outside of politics, the values of judo, at the same time, the International Judo Federation makes a purely political decision, allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Olympic qualification.
The International Judo Federation became the first of the international sports federations to grossly ignore the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
Judging by the latest decision, the IJF does not know about tens of thousands of dead Ukrainian civilians, the atrocities of Russian fascists in Bucha, destroyed cities, millions of refugees who lost their roof over their heads and were forced to leave their homes, destroyed infrastructure, including sports, about a billion damage caused by Russian aggressors to Ukraine.
What kind of neutral status of the athletes of Russia and Belarus can we talk about if these teams are trained centrally at the expense of the budget of their states or national federations throughout the entire period of the war.
In more than 120 days of Russia’s military aggression on the territory of Ukraine, none of the so-called “neutral athletes” and coaches expressed their attitude towards the war even with a minimal condemning post on social networks.
We are sure that the vast majority of representatives of Russian judo are drugged by insane propaganda, support an aggressive policy and a war of conquest on the territory of Ukraine.
In the application of the Russian national team for the Grand Slam tournament in Ulaanbaatar, published on the official website of the IJF, there are 28 judoists, 11 of them are active servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
No one in the IJF is embarrassed that it is the armed forces of the Russian Federation that are waging an aggressive and destructive war on the territory of our country, and these so-called “neutral athletes” are active representatives of the RF Armed Forces and will carry on world tatahs, in addition to the so-called “neutral status” also rank of soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
We are deeply disappointed with the decision of the IJF and have decided to withdraw from participation in all sporting events organized by the International Judo Federation until the Judo Federations of Russia and Belarus are eliminated from participation in IJF competitions in any status.
The FDU letter is also accompanied by photos and videos showing why Russian judokas should not compete in neutral status.
Recall that the IJF allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the competition in Mongolia under a neutral flag. This decision condemned Minister of Youth and Sports Vadim Gutzeit and leading Ukrainian judoists. In particular, the world champion in judo Georgiy Zantaraya promised to give up all his titles if the Russians were allowed to participate in the tournaments.
