Russia agreed to allow United Nations mission and the International Committee of the Red Cross to the site of the tragedy in Olenivka. As a result of blowing up the barracks of the colony, captured military and civilians, more than 50 people, were killed. Another 130 were wounded.

The Russian side presents the consent as a “goodwill gesture”, and not as a reaction to international pressure in response to appeal of Ukraine.

“The Russian Federation, in the interests of investigating the attack on the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka (Russian transliteration Olenivka – ed.) in the “Donetsk People’s Republic”, invited experts from the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross”– informs Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
