The application allows the victim to call and receive help without a phone call, without drawing the attention of the offender.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine presented mobile app to respond to cases of domestic and gender-based violence.
This is stated in a post on site MIA.
It is noted that this application allows the victim to call and receive help without a phone call, without attracting the attention of the offender.
“This is an additional and convenient way to respond to cases of domestic and gender-based violence. Also, the mobile application is a resource with useful information about the types of violence, a map with all available services nearby, and, of course, a button to call the police,” the message says.
The app is available for download on Google Play and the App Store. The ministry also indicated that the program is integrated with the information and communication system “NPU Information Portal”.
“The developers note that the appearance and functionality will change, because this is a security issue. The name of the application is not distributed publicly so that the offender could not determine it on the victim’s phone,” the message says.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, police have registered more than 58,000 reports of domestic violence. This is more than half as much as last year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
“18,226 offenders have been registered,” the ministry stated.
It is also noted that, according to a survey conducted by the United Nations Population Fund among target groups, 56% of those surveyed feel that the number of cases of such violence has recently increased.
In his speech, Minister of the Interior Denis Monastyrsky noted that today’s war threatens to increase violence in the future. Therefore, now the Ministry of Internal Affairs must provide all the tools and support to protect the most vulnerable categories of citizens.
So, summed up in the ministry, the application is “camouflaged” under the usual one (does not look like an application for calling the police, does not arouse suspicion among the abuser).
“The main functions of the application become visible only to those who need the help of the police. This concept makes it inconspicuous for the offender, which allows the victim to install and use it on her phone without fear,” the message says.
Earlier, UNIAN already reported that it became available in Ukraine Instagram Music function.
