The head of the DPRK called the “unknown fever” the biggest shock since the founding of the country

“The spread of this dangerous infectious disease in our country is the biggest shock since the founding of the country, as well as the very serious situation with the spread of the new coronavirus around the world,” Kim Jong-un said at a meeting of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Labor Party (quoted from RBC).

According to the data of the National Emergency Management Office on the spread of the epidemic, which were also announced at the meeting, on May 13, 174,440 new cases of “fever” were registered in the DPRK, 81,430 people recovered, 21 people died. From the end of April to May 13, 524,440 people were infected with the infection in the country, of which 234,630 fully recovered, 288,810 are being treated, 27 people have died.

Kim Jong-un said that this crisis is due to the “incompetence and irresponsibility” of the party organizations in enforcing the quarantine. According to the leader of the DPRK, the country will be able to cope with the epidemic if it focuses on anti-virus measures.

May 12 South Korean agency Yonhap reported about the first case of COVID-19 infection in the DPRK. According to the agency, tests were taken from the patient on May 8, and the Omicron strain was identified in him. After that, the country announced the launch of a virus control system under conditions of a “maximum emergency”. Kim Jong-un urged to prevent the spread of infection and strengthen border controls.
