The rise in prices for pork occurred even despite the fact that feed prices have fallen significantly.
In Ukraine, pork becomes more expensive. The expert noted that this is due to a shortage of raw materials.
Nikolai Babenko, head of the Meat Industry Association, spoke about this on the air of the telethon.
“There was a huge shortage of raw materials, that is, a shortage of pigs, which led to an increase in prices, despite the fact that feed prices have fallen significantly. This deficit for the third quarter is already 30-40% and it is expected that by the end of the year it will be 50%” , he said.
According to Babenko, now, due to the actions of the occupiers and the actions of state officials, it so happened that we have a deficit and it will not be possible to close it until the summer of 2023.
And the July devaluation of the hryvnia, as the expert noted, led to the fact that pork imports became more expensive and unattractive for processing enterprises.
“Before the war, the average retail price for pork was 100 UAH/kg, and now, due to the increase in the price of pigs, by 50%, meat prices have also increased by 50%, that is, it is already 150 UAH/kg. And this growth does not stop In Ukraine, an anti-record has already been set for the price of pigs – this is 60 UAH per kilogram of live weight, before the war it was 45 UAH. And the price will continue to grow, perhaps we will even see a price of 70 UAH,” the head of the association emphasized.
As UNIAN reported, according to Oleg Pendzin, a member of the economic discussion club, prices for bread, milk and meat will continue to rise until the end of the yearat the same time, seasonal vegetables will become cheaper by mid-September.
