Same-sex marriage in Ukraine may legalize after the war

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky responded to a petition to legalize same-sex marriage. In his opinion, it will be possible to return to this issue after the war. This is stated in the official answer president.

It says that according to the Constitution of Ukraine, marriage is based on the free consent of a woman and a man.

“The Constitution cannot be changed during martial law, however, the Government has been developing options regarding the legalization of a registered civil partnership in Ukraine,” the President’s response says.

The President has already sent an appeal to legalize civil partnership to the Prime Minister.

Ukrainian LGBT community appreciated the President’s response, in particular, a message about the possible introduction of a civil partnership as an alternative to marriage.

By the way, Anastasia Sovenko’s petition gained 28.5 thousand signatures.

Recall that in 2022 the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology conducted a survey on the attitude of Ukrainians towards representatives of the LGBT community. For 6 years in Ukraine, the number of people who have a negative attitude towards LGBT people has decreased by one and a half times. There has also been a significant increase in the number of those who have a positive attitude towards LGBT people.
