All principles of nuclear safety have been violated, the IAEA Director General said.
The situation in the occupied Russia Zaporozhye NPP every day becomes more and more serious.
This was stated by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, quotes sky news.
“All the principles of nuclear safety have been violated. An extremely serious, extremely serious and dangerous matter is at stake,” Grossi said.
He pointed to shelling near the station at the beginning of the war.
The nuclear power plant is currently controlled by Russia, but Ukrainian personnel are being held there, leading to conflicts and alleged violence.
The IAEA has some contact with staff, but it is “not uniform,” Grossi added.
He also said that the supply chain for equipment and spare parts at the nuclear power plant has been interrupted, so “we are not sure that the plant is getting everything it needs.”
As UNIAN reported, since March 4, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant has been controlled by Russian invaders. Also under occupation is the satellite town of ZNPP – Energodar.
According to Energoatom, the Russian occupiers are turning the Zaporozhye NPP into a military base and using it as a shield. They have deployed heavy artillery batteries and planted anti-personnel mines along the banks of the reservoir, whose water cools six nuclear power plant reactors.
On July 21, Energoatom reported that the occupiers deployed military equipment and weapons are also in the engine room of the power unit of the Zaporozhye NPP.
Recall that a little earlier the expert described the future liberation of the Zaporozhye NPP from the invaders.
