Russia violated all three principles of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons – MFA – Ukraine news, Politics

Russia, as a nuclear state, has flagrantly violated all three basic principles of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This is stated in the text of the speech by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mykola Tochytsky at the NPT conference in New York, published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tochitsky notes that Russia violated all three basic principles of the NPT – it reversed the process of nuclear disarmament, rejected the principle of nuclear non-proliferation (deployment of nuclear weapons in the occupied Crimea) and the exclusively peaceful use of nuclear energy (seizure of nuclear facilities in Ukraine).

Tochitsky notes the first ever fact of the transformation of civilian nuclear facilities into military targets and a foothold for the Russian army.

He also stressed that the world actually faced manifestations of nuclear terrorism sponsored by a nuclear state.

The Deputy Foreign Minister called on the international community to take joint measures to prevent a global nuclear catastrophe. He pointed to the need to close the airspace over Ukrainian nuclear power plants, provide Ukraine with advanced air defense systems and bring the aggressor country to justice.
