The Russian border helicopter Mi-8 violated the airspace of Estonia, which is a member of NATO, and stayed there for almost two minutes.

This is reported ERR.

The incident occurred on June 18 in the Koidula region in the southeast of the country. Because of this, Russian Ambassador Vladimir Lipaev was summoned to the Estonian Foreign Ministry and handed him a note.

According to the channel, the Russian helicopter had no flight plan and its transponder was turned off. In addition, the pilot did not have two-way radio contact with the Estonian Air Traffic Service.

“This is an extremely serious and unfortunate incident from Estonia’s point of view, which will undoubtedly cause additional tension and is by no means acceptable,” the country’s Foreign Ministry commented.

The incident in the Koidula region was the second violation of the Estonian air border by Russians this year. Last year, the Russian Federation committed five such violations.

Russia violated Estonian airspace ahead of a major NATO summit. In addition, Russian troops are conducting exercises near the Estonian border, simulating daily rocket attacks on the country.
