Kirby said that members of the US Congress had previously visited Taiwan, and this did not cause the slightest complication and accusations of deviating from the “one China” principle agreed between Washington and Beijing.

Therefore, Kirby emphasized, Pelosi’s visit to Taipei does not signify a US abandonment of this principle, nor any departure from traditional policy in this direction.

The United States, as before, does not support Taiwan’s declaration of independence, but at the same time will not allow any attempt at unilateral forceful violation of the current situation, he said.

Concerning Beijing’s reactionsthen it was expected, and even, contrary to the fears of some analysts, relatively moderate, says Kirby.

The White House had expectations about military exercises in the Taiwan Strait, and in part aircraft violations of the air safety zone, and regarding economic measures. “As you can see, Beijing has acted according to these patterns,” Kirby said.

The White House does not plan any countermeasures in connection with the Chinese protests and intends to continue to continue and aid to democratic Taiwanand shipping protection operations in the region, he said.

The PRC considers Taiwan its province and declares its desire for “peaceful reunification.” Taiwan says it is ready to offer armed resistance if invaded.

President of the U.S.A Joe Biden declared in May that Washington engages the armyif China tries to take over Taiwan by force. “We support the One China policy, but that doesn’t mean that China has, excuse me, jurisdiction to use force to seize Taiwan,” he explained Washington’s position.
