Olympic champion in gymnastics Oleg Vernyaevwho is a native of Donetsk, spoke about the importance of switching to the Ukrainian language.

The 28-year-old athlete said that after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he completely refuses to communicate in the language of the aggressor country in public space.

“After February 24, my friends and I decided to communicate in Ukrainian from time to time. I practically did not communicate in it and hardly knew it, but after all these events we decided to switch to Ukrainian, because this is a position that needs to be expressed publicly.

Of course, at home you can communicate in Russian, but in public space, in the city, you must speak the state language.

In everyday life, I still communicate in Russian, because it’s hard for me to speak Ukrainian 24/7. Now we finally need to switch to Ukrainian,” Vernyaev said in an interview with the YouTube channel.pershy”.
