Not only in the south: analysts have named a new direction in which the Armed Forces of Ukraine can go on the offensive

The positions of Russian troops in the direction of Slavyansk are very weakened due to the fact that the Russian Federation transfers its forces to strengthen the grouping in the south. US Institute for the Study of War analysts considerthat because of this, the defenders can launch a counteroffensive in the north, namely in the Izyum direction.

They also recalled the words of the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Vadim Skibitsky that two weeks ago the Russians withdrew tactical groups of the Airborne Forces from the Donetsk region.

“The UK Department of Defense also noted that Russian forces have likely identified the Zaporizhia region as a vulnerable front in need of reinforcement, and the Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces are regrouping in the Zaporizhia region. Social media footage shows Russian troops in recent weeks they are transferring equipment and personnel both to Zaporozhye and Kherson regions,” the Institute added.

Experts point out that such a regrouping would deprive the Russian Federation of the strength needed for a campaign in the Slavyansk region.

“The withdrawal is likely to create an opportunity for Ukrainian forces to launch a counter-offensive in the Izyum direction, just as the Russian seizure of the Luhansk region allowed Ukraine to create conditions for a counter-offensive in the Kherson region. The redeployment of Russian troops to the Zaporozhye region also suggests that Ukrainian counter-offensives are not limited to the Kherson region and , will probably run along the entire southern axis,” the ISW noted.
