Magnetic storms in August 2022

UNIAN named all magnetic storms in August and gave advice for weather-dependent people.

Solar laboratory workers constantly monitor solar activity. On days of increased solar activity, magnetic storms are observed on Earth. This phenomenon can cause a deterioration in well-being and the elderly and meteorologically dependent people.

What is a magnetic storm?

Magnetic storms are disturbances in the Earth’s magnetic field caused by solar flares. Such fluctuations can adversely affect the operation of communication systems, as well as human health. Even a slight increase in activity can affect health.

On the first day of the month August 1 a weak magnetic storm is expected. Then at the beginning of the month, scientists predict a three-day storm with 3 to 5 August. The storm on August 3 will be of medium strength, and on the 4th and 5th – weak.

The middle of the month will be calm, but at the end a magnetic storm is expected to last almost a week. It will last from 16 to 22 August, and on the 20th and 21st there will be its peak. Then a weak magnetic storm is predicted August 29.

Impact of magnetic storms on health

During magnetic storms, the well-being of the elderly, weather-dependent and pregnant women, as well as those with chronic diseases, may worsen. The most common symptoms of a magnetic storm are:

  • headache;
  • dizziness;
  • nausea;
  • back and joint pain;
  • exacerbation of chronic diseases;
  • high blood pressure;
  • severe weakness;
  • unexplained fatigue;
  • insomnia;
  • increased irritability.

To minimize the negative impact of storms, start following some rules a few days before the dangerous date.

  1. Avoid fatty, spicy, heavy foods.
  2. Replace strong coffee, alcohol, cigarettes and energy drinks with green and herbal teas.
  3. Be outdoors more and walk more often.
  4. Ventilate the room regularly.
  5. Go to bed at the same time, try to get at least 7 hours of sleep.
  6. Avoid conflict and stressful situations.
