Meanwhile, the Russian embassy in Vilnius published a statement with a claim against the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, who “in an interview with Western media the other day, openly called for a change in the political system in Russia, the removal of President Putin from power and, in fact, a coup d’état in our country.”
The statement of the Russian diplomatic mission says that in this situation, Moscow would like to hear the official opinion of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on whether Landsbergis’s statement is the minister’s personal point of view or is the position of the entire Lithuanian leadership as a whole.
“Is this the new official position of Lithuania, or has your subordinate Minister finally gotten out of hand and is playing his own game in the state of which you are the head?” Russian diplomats addressed the head of the republic.
On May 10, the Seimas of Lithuania at its regular meeting accepted a resolution recognizing Russia as a state that “supports and carries out terrorism” in connection with what is happening in Ukraine. All 128 MPs present voted.
