Kyiv announced Turkey’s readiness to help evacuate the military from Azovstal

Vereshchuk specified that on May 13, a meeting will be held in Russia with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to agree on the first stage of the evacuation of the Ukrainian military, including the seriously wounded. The Deputy Prime Minister added that among those who are on the territory of the plant were the military, officers of the SBU, national police and border guards.

The evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant with the participation of the UN and the Red Cross began on May 5. This happened after talks between UN Secretary General António Guterres and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Representatives of the organization, as well as the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR, reported on May 6 that 150 civilians had been withdrawn from Azovstal. On May 7, Kyiv reported that all women, children and the elderly had left the enterprise. An additional 51 people, including 11 children, were later reported to have been evacuated.

Vereshchuk said on May 11 that Kyiv offered Moscow to exchange the Ukrainian military (according to her, about a thousand people remained on the territory of the plant) for Russian prisoners of war. But there were no agreements at that time, negotiations on this issue are ongoing, she stressed. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Kyiv is seeking the evacuation of military personnel from Azovstal in order to hide the presence of Ukrainian military mercenaries among the Ukrainians.
