Kuleba and Borrell announced the immediate start of preparations for Ukraine’s integration into EU structures

The Minister and the High Representative emphasized that by today’s decision the European Union has sent a powerful signal: the Ukrainian people are part of the European family of nations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell made a joint video message on the occasion of granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership, in which they announced the immediate start of preparations for the integration of our state into European structures.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The heads of diplomacy of Ukraine and the EU stressed that this is a decisive moment for the European Union, Ukraine, peace and democracy on our common continent.

“Russian armed aggression cannot deprive people in Europe of the right to live a normal and dignified life. Ukraine will win. Europe will win,” they said.

The minister and the high representative announced the start of preparations for Ukraine’s integration into European structures. “We will go through a long journey together, which begins today. Just now we are immediately starting preparations for Ukraine’s integration into European structures and, ultimately, membership in the European Union,” the diplomats said.

Kuleba and Borrell are convinced that with this historic decision, the European Union sends a powerful message: the Ukrainian people are part of the European family of peoples. The future of Ukraine is in the European Union. “Ukraine and the EU continue to stand together in defense of peace,” they summed up.

As UNIAN reported, on February 28, President Vladimir Zelensky signed an application for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.

Today, June 23, the European Council decided to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union.

Zelensky welcomed the decision of the leaders of the member states of the European Union to grant Ukraine candidate status for EU membership.
