The President stressed that Ukraine shares European values.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law on ratification Istanbul Convention.
Zelensky announced this in Instagram.
“Signed. The law on the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. Its main meaning is simple, but extremely important. This is an obligation to protect women from violence and various forms of discrimination,” he said.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine shares European values.
“For us, human life and health is the highest value,” the head of state stressed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on June 20, the Verkhovna Rada supported the ratification of the Istanbul Convention with 259 votes. Only 8 MPs voted against.
Ukraine signed the convention back in 2011, but due to politicians’ speculations around its provisions, it could not ratify it for more than 10 years.
