Embargo on Russian coal comes into force in EU – UNIAN

Today, August 1, the EU comes into force embargo for the import of coal from Russia. This measure was included in the fifth package of sanctions adopted on April 7, 2022.

The agreed package includes a number of measures aimed at increasing pressure on the Russian authorities and the economy, as well as limiting the resources of the Kremlin to conduct aggression.

Coal embargo:

On April 8, the European Union published the fifth package of sanctions containing the coal embargo.

From August 2022, there is a ban on the purchase, import or transport of coal and other solid fossil fuels in the EU if they originate in Russia or are exported from Russia.

On July 21, 2022, it became known that the UK would impose sanctions on coal imports and oil from Russia.
