Devastating 6.1 magnitude earthquake happened on the night of June 22 in two provinces of Afghanistan – Paktika and Khost. The death toll was at least 1,000, and at least 2,000 more were injured. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 km, its tremors were felt in the Afghan capital of Kabul, as well as in Pakistan and India. CGTN, citing local sources, said the natural disaster caused landslides.
The government of Afghanistan instructed to send emergency teams to the affected areas. The local authorities promised to provide financial assistance to the relatives of the victims. The Cabinet of Ministers ordered the use of all available air and ground transport to deliver food, clothing, medicines and other essentials to the victims, as well as to transport the wounded.
After the earthquake, the Afghan authorities asked international organizations for help. According to the Dawn portal, humanitarian aid has already promised render Pakistan. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Afghanistan did not turn to Russia for help after the earthquake.
