Rinkevics recalled the need to confiscate the assets of the Russian government and limit the issuance of visas to the EU for Russians.
In the sixth month of a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Latvia Edgars Rinkevics said that the cruelty of the Russian invaders in the war against Ukraine resembles the actions of the militants of the ISIS terrorist organization.
This is reported Politico.
Rinkevics noted that the European Union should declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism, in particular, after the murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Yelenovka.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia noted that “it is necessary to call a spade a spade”, since the actions of the invaders in Ukraine “reminiscent of ISIS”, which Europe has always called a terrorist organization.
“The only way to move forward is to strengthen the current strategy, which is to support Ukraine, send additional military assistance. The public needs to feel this, most Russians support the Kremlin’s policies. If we condemn countries like Iran, then Russia is no different,” — the diplomat said.
In addition, Rinkevics recalled the need to confiscate the assets of the Russian government and limit the issuance of visas to the EU for Russians.
The war in Ukraine and the position of Latvia:
On July 12, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, announced that the Latvian authorities do not exclude the use by the Russian Federation nuclear weapons.
“Let me remind these people that actually the US and the UK are also nuclear states. And any attack on any of these countries that have nuclear weapons will provoke a backlash. But yes, indeed, we should have all kinds of related plans for all kinds of events,” the head of the Latvian Foreign Ministry noted.
